- To provide overall leadership and management and be accountable for the performance and quality of work in a service of up to 7 social work teams.
- Lead and be accountable for initiatives that ensure the service meets its strategic aim to develop effective interventions to enable more children to be cared for safely within their own families.
- Lead and be accountable for the effective operation of the service, including leading teams through transformation, instilling a clear sense of direction, priority and pace across the service, ensuring clarity of goals at a service, team and individual level, conveying how they support the fundamental purpose of the council and energising staff towards their achievement.

Newham Children and Young People’s Services are currently undertaking an exciting transformation programme to create integrated Early Help and Safeguarding services for our children, young people and families.
Our vision is to get it right the first time for all. We are aligning our services to improve accessibility for residents and to strengthen partnerships between statutory, specialist, early help and universal services.
On our journey to embed systemic practice into all our social care services we have structured the service into practice pods. The new structure has smaller social work pods led by Practice Leaders. This smaller span will enable better grip of case management, higher quality supervision and a stronger learning environment.
We are the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service and have in-house Health Visitors and School Nurses.

Children’s Safeguarding Neighbourhood Service Manager
£55,878 - £69,291 pa
As a key member of our senior management team for Children’s Early Help and Safeguarding services you will provide overall leadership, management and be accountable for the performance and quality of work in a service of up to 7 social work teams. Our aim for integrated working is to get it right first time for more children and young people. The wider integrated offer in each Neighbourhood Service includes Youth services, Best Start in Life including Children’s Centres, CAMHS, Health Visiting and School Nursing.
Our programme has integrated a range of our targeted and specialist services into four Neighbourhood Service areas, each covering a quadrant of the borough. In addition to the Families First team providing targeted early help, each Neighbourhood Service have an assessment team providing social work assessments, and the Intervention team providing long-term social work casework including care proceedings, child protection and children in need.
We are currently developing a Complex Safeguarding Hub which is responsive to the community, residents, exceptional demand and complexities.
- With a proven track record of performance improvement and service development you will leada dedicated management team and build on the strengths in our safeguarding services
- You will have extensive management experience, strong evidence based professional knowledge and a sound grasp of performance and budget management.
- Social Worker registered with the HCPC
